PH6 DESIGN LAB

조윤철은 PH6 DESIGN LAB 대표이며 미국공인 랜드스케이프 아키텍트 (Registered Landscape Architect)이다. 1997년부터 2010년 까지 뉴욕의 켄 스미쓰 설계사무실 (Ken smith Landscape Architect)과 하그리브스 어소시에이츠 (Hargreaves Associates)에서 Senior Associate로서 샌디에고 워터프론트, 듀크대학 플라자, 마이애미 워터프론트, 이스트리버 플라자, 라스베가스 MGM 호텔, 베이루트소재 아메리칸대학  프로젝트등을 설계하였다. 2013년부터는 홍익대학교 건축공학부에서 조경건축 디자인을 가르치고 있으며  비영리재단 Greenland Global Access Inc (Atlanta, USA)의 보드멤버로서 아프리카 도시개발 설계부분을 담당하고 있다.   

서울대학교 조경학과와 환경대학원을 거쳐 미국 펜실베니아대학 디자인스쿨에서 Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning 석사 학위를 받았으며 2009년 뉴욕 건축가협회 디자인 어워드에서 프로젝트 부문 대상을 수상한 바 있다.

PHILOSOPHY

PH6 DESIGN LAB founded by Yoonchul Cho is rooted in the concept that a small design lab which fosters a creative and collaborative atmosphere will produce work which is at once innovative and practical.  This approach also provides for close interaction with partners and clients and allows PH6 DESIGN LAB to spend the time and energy necessary to understand the depth of each project as well as the unique identities, characteristics, and requirements of each site.  This process of innovation sees each project in the larger cultural, social, environmental, economic, and infrastructural contexts in which it exists and then strives, through creative strategies which vibrate through the critical connections from the part to the whole, to enhance the whole through the part.

PH6 DESIGN LAB has applied this design philosophy to projects ranging in scale from individual residences to streets and other components of the urban framework to large scale city and town planning.  It has gained experience with the application of this strategy within the context of urban planning, urban parks, waterfront development, private, public, and industrial complex development, street planning, and exposition facilities. 

PERSONNEL

Yoonchul Cho is a registered landscape architect in U.S.A and founder and principal/creative director of PH6 DESIGN LAB where he oversees all design process in the office. He brings exceptional design and management leadership as well as an extensive construction expertise with his 20 years of experience both in the Korea and internationally. Prior to founding PH6 DESIGN LAB, Mr. Cho was senior associate at the New York office of Hargreaves Associates.
